My Personality & My Relationships
The relationship that is created between the teacher and their students is one that is unique to each of us educators. I personally like to be professional but loving. To me this means that I need to show the respect I ask from my students. I respect them just like I want them to respect me. I think that relationships should not only focus on the students but the families as well. When a teacher knows about the students families it becomes easier to understand the individual student. Although I like to be professional this does not mean I don't demonstrate love to each and one of my students. I am the kind of teacher who gives positive appraisals, high fives and hugs. My favorite part of teaching is receiving that good morning hug from students.
My personal life experiences not only help me be a good teacher but help me understand those families and the students. I was a first born Mexican American in a household where no one knew the English language. I believe this has shaped me to be a good student and a good teacher. I had the difficulty of learning on my own but because of this I am a strong and independent person. This has also helped me in my relationships with students and their families. Being bilingual has come in hand. I can help those students struggling with English because just like them I was once a struggling student myself. I also have the ability to communicate with Spanish speaking parents. Having a clear understanding with parents allows me to fully explain to the parents what they can do to help their children succeed.
