My Personality & My Teaching
As an educator I am fully aware that my persona can influence my teaching style. All teachers due to their personal background have different styles of teaching. Although this sounds like a negative thing, I tend to think this is a good thing. Children just like the teachers are all different and have different personal backgrounds. Does this mean teachers should only teach the way they believe is correct? No. Teachers need to be aware of their students learning styles. It becomes extremely important for teachers to observe and learn how each of their students can succeed in their classrooms. Teaching with different styles throughout the school year will benefit the students.
Personally
I personally I am an intuitive learner, where I like to learn in new and non repetitive ways. I enjoys having class discussions in order to talk about what is being learned and hear new perspectives on the subject matter from different classmates. This leads to me being a verbal learner. I learn better by hearing lectures and hearing others. I will rather have a full discussion on the material than have a visual component.
I can go both ways in being an active and reflective learner. Depending on the subject and material being taught there are times where I prefer to be and active learner and other situations where I prefer to be a more reflective learner. I am also a balanced sequential and global learner. I like to do some assignments following logical order but I can also be a global learner. In certain learning activities I will choose to skip the steps and get my own answer.
I don't believe that my personal learning styles will hinder my teaching styles. Contrary to this, I believe that my personal learning styles will only help me become a better teacher. I am aware of how I learn and I am also aware not everyone learns like me. I believe that every kind of learning is just as important as my personal type of learning.
